Enrolled in 211! What else would inspire Swuplers more? Definitely no!
Almost all the current campus talks concerning the Swupl’s latest reform intention let out the university’s fading-in ambition of entering into “211” list, which has stirringly created a ripple(comprehensive) effect in the (this) land of lawyers. Urgently and undeniably, the school is now in a great need of some encouragement to turn down annoying frustration and manage a “yesterday once more”. Decades of glory has endowed the students and faculty, without fail, with overwhelming confidence and somewhat inborn pride. Unbelievably but convincingly, in late 1997, all promises seemed to go hanging up to the air along with the removal from “211” coverage. Fortunately however, the fail on the other hand, send the university deep into self-questioning and finally came up with the heartwarming goal. A cycle of ten years, it’s now coming another round for a bid and the scornful 211 returns to the of utmost importance.
Project 211 is a constructive project of nearly 100 (now 108) universities and colleges in 21st century conducted by the government. The project aims at cultivating high-level talents for national economic and social development strategies. A decision-making body called Evaluation Committee is appointed to decide a university’s qualifications for the “211”list and purportedly is to judge the case according to facilities and academic achievements. That’s to say, the panel satisfied, CONGRATULATIONS! You’re in. Otherwise, sorry!
Some universities were bending every effort for a seat while a great bundle of others which were already on the list but could be kicked out if failed to make the grade by the time went all out to impress the inspector in every possible way.
Take Beijing University of Chinese Medicine for instance, students were told to be in the classroom 15 minutes before class started. And Beijing Institute of Technology required its students to remove all the posters of pop stars and even cartoons from their dorm wall.
“Some of the changes were good, others were an overreaction,” concluded Wang, a student from Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. She said her classmates were annoyed by some of the new rules. “But as students, we’re proud that our university is on the 211 list. Anyway, it’s only for a week.”
By all odds, authorities of Wang’s university have their own concerns even though it is considered a first-class university in the country. Zhang Weibin, an associate dean of a business school, had this to say, “We just don’t want to get a bad evaluation because of some minor details. We can’t afford to ruin our reputation and lose state support as a 211 university.”

Coming again for SWUPL, the candidate has exerted every possibility to seek for extensive support. Several months ago, top officials of Chongqing ran in and guaranteed their roaring applause, firing all cylinders of the school’s proceeding.
“We are so glad that finally it happened,” hailed a junior of law school implying that authorities are drawing specific attention to the old law temple, “However hard it may be I believe we certainly could succeed down the road!”
Anyone giving a glance to the new campus shall be intensively impressed by large quantity of buildings and branches, splendid living condition, technology equipped classrooms et al. In addition, ongoing constructions promised a more favorable framework as well as a conviction that a significant future is on the way.
“Our school is gonna be a superb one once all basic facilities, services, and installations are functioning,” Zhang, a freshman from foreign language school, smiled confidently. Apparently it can be concluded that SWUPL is, unprecedentedly close to the list in many fellows’ mind while the woeful library is still served as a butt with a pressing new one being built luckily. In many students’ memories, numerous roads and walk ways have been paved but, unfortunately they’re only walking on a small amount of them. Right in the same roads trucks with mountains of rocks and soils are hustling and bustling all around to meet our need for a decent library and do not bother forgetting to feed us a great deal dusts and ashes which can be avoided by a basin of water. Even so, it does not do any interruption to some people who are busy performing their kissing skills. We probably can’t help falling in love with Mr. or Miss Right but absolutely we can’t fall out of studying. It’s an accomplished fact that magnificent teaching buildings are thrown into the shade by the gadget, computers.
Anyway we get here the most confident students, it’s always said “confidence accounts for half of the success”. So, what about the other half?
The oddest rules
WHAT were the most bizarre new university rules for the evaluation process? Our campus correspondents gave us a few:
1. Do not play online games or watch movies frequently in the dorm. It implies a negative impression all the way.
2. Young couples are not to be too intimate in public. Considering most inspectors are in their 40s and 50s, any public display or affection is shocking or awkward to them.
3. Remain somewhere on or near campus even when you don’t have class. It may probably promises you a chance of face to face conversation with the panel, and then be sure impress them with your genius
