Russia,Georgia spy row escalates
The Russian move follow the detention of five Russian officers on spying charges in Gorgia,which further escalataed tension in bilateral relation strained over Georgia’s bid to join NATO and Moscow’s close ties to two separatist Georgian provinces.
Russian defence Minister SergeiIvanov called the charges against the officers aburd and demanded their immediate release.
“I won’t be surprised if today the Georgian side files charges against them of wanting to steal the sun from the sky,”Ivanov quipped on Russioan television.
“All of this is aimed at provoking the situation and rising the degree of escslation to the maximum level in order to deflect attention from problems that exist in Georgia,”Ivanov said.”Russian will react appropiately and responsibly.”
Relations between Moscow and have become increasingly tense after president Mikhail Saakashvili came to power following Georgia’s 2003 Rose Revolution,pledging to take the Caucasus nation out of Russian’s orbit.
A Georgian political analyst,Ramaz Sakvarelidze,said the detention could reflect Saakashvili’s frustration at being unable to fullfill his promise of regaining control of renegade province.

Rose Revolution: 玫瑰革命。2003年11月，格鲁吉亚反对派领导人萨卡什维利以当局在议会选举中“舞弊”为由拒绝承认选举结果而引发局势动荡。2003年11月22日，格鲁吉亚反对派率领示威者冲进国会，要求当时的总统谢瓦尔德纳泽辞职，一名反对派手上还挥舞着象征和平的红玫瑰。最后反对派成功“逼宫”，谢瓦尔德纳泽黯然下台，萨卡什维利成功当选格总统。格鲁吉亚的这场变化被称之为“玫瑰革命”。
